Family Connections
The goal of Family Connections is to locate and reconnect children with extended family, kin, their traditional homelands, and community. The Family Connections team includes both Family Finders and Reintegration Workers.
Family Finding is a method designed to identify and connect children in care with their extended family members, supportive kin, and community members. Rooted in Indigenous values, this approach emphasizes the significance of kinship ties and acknowledges that a child’s well-being is enriched through connections to their family, culture, and community.
Supporting Children in Rebuilding Family and Community Connections
Reintegration Workers assist children in care by helping them reintegrate into their families, communities, and nations. They play a key role in rebuilding these relationships and accompany the child as they reconnect with their family and community, supporting the re-establishment of these vital bonds. They do not move individuals to their home community but rather connect them to a relationship within that community, such as writing letters to family members.
